Show Me The Money

Our recent trip put me far behind on email. When I began taking the time to read very little some of it I was amazed by the amount of junk mail that had slipped past my spam folder landing in my inbox. For a few moments I thought I had some real treasures to explore.

Much to my chagrin billions of dollars apparantly awaited me--according to several dozen emails from various countries. All promised oodles in return for what seemed like very little. Some banking information, a small sum to ship documents--you know the drill.

A few of the letters were much more original than the ones I have seen in the past. That means one of two things: either the scammers are getting better OR I'm growing more naive. Not naive enough, however, to fall for any of them.

Words seem easy to come by for most people. Scammers are a dime a dozen. On social network and other places on the internet. In the real world, too.  Like in the work place and even in churches. Truth be told we often have a tendency to make promises we'll never keep.

Perhaps we don't offer mountains of money but we sometimes commit to other things like love, acceptance, friendship, encouragement, and prayer. It appears that we mean well but do we follow through? Or are the hurried statements we make merely empty words? Careless words?

Why am I thinking about this? Aside from salvation my "word" is all I've got. People measure me by it to determine if I mean what I say and say what I mean. My desire is to be authentic in every way.

The last things that people need are more scammers, posers, and fakes full of empty promises and careless words. We do far more harm to the Gospel when we say things and don't follow through with them then when we are silent and do nothing.

"Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is considered prudent." Proverbs 17:28

Without a doubt the world is screaming "show me the money." Much the way I respond when I read the emails of false promises they have grown increasingly sceptical of what they hear.

They want to see something and someone that is REAL. But there is another Who is far more important who will also weigh our words. 

"But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken." Matthew 12:36

Seems to me that I am not the only one saying "SHOW ME THE MONEY."
